1. A coating resin manufacturer requested a visit to compare their processing and product technology with current industry best practice.

During a three day visit, significant cost saving opportunities were identified. A technology review seminar was also requested and a half day presentation was given during the visit to technical and production staff. Three new product recipes were provided and these were implemented successfully over the following months by the company plant chemist.

2. A manufacturer of printed paper foils required an improved performance water based topcoat for a range of surfacing products.

Their current technology was assessed and a deficiency in the rub resistance and flexibility of their existing product was identified during lab testing. Use of an alternative commercially available cross-linking agent in their coating formulation was recommended, and this fixed the problem at minimal cost.

3. A natural product processing company requested an assessment of a by-product from their existing manufacturing operation. They believed the material had potential as a raw material for surface coatings or as an adhesive component.

An assessment of economic and technical potential was provided and a laboratory evaluation of the by-product was recommended. We organized the testing of our suggested start-point formulations for compliance with several international standards. This initial study showed promising results and further work is planned by the company.

4. A well known global business and technology consultancy firm needed help with the assessment of the applications and future value of a novel patented resin technology that was under development by their client.

An expert from RTI assisted the firm by providing information on current industrial practice, knowledge, costs and existing patents. Input data consisted of SWOT analyses, technical presentations and technical & economic feasibility assessments.
